she took the midnight train going anywhere

I basically had the perfect weekend this past weekend. I had a friend visiting me and we sat around watching JGL movies, talking about fandom and life, and ordering all our meals in the form of delivery. We ended up watching Hesher, 50/50, Brick, Manic... and then ended the weekend by watching Reichenbach. (We clearly hate ourselves). Also, I don't think I ate any vegetables and felt like crap for the rest of Sunday, oops.

And now it's back to work. August is almost over and there are an increasing number of undergrads on campus. There's 2 weeks till classes start officially and we still don't have our TA assignments, go figure. I just want to know what my schedule is so I can plan the rest of my life? I'm in the process of applying for a part-time thing with the overnight programs at the Museum of Science. I think it'll be good teaching experience outside of academia, and also potentially fun.

Question though. The application form says that I have to list professional references, so I emailed both of the bio lab supervisors (who have seen most of my teaching) to ask if I could list them. The problem is that one of them has an out of office message and they won't be back till Sept. Is it bad if I list her anyway? What are the chances the museum even contacts any of them?

------

In more fun news, tv is still consuming my life. Teen Wolf ruins everything and I might be writing a thing. If I thought I could make it 15,000 words, I would sign up for the big bang, but right now it's just vague ideas... so I better not tempt fate. Speaking of writing, I have too many WIPs, I should get on that. (There is the Mentalist thing - which I have plotted, but words are HARD, I still have a Grimm Hogwarts AU on the backburner, I promised Manda I would do a 1D thing, ugh).

Grimm started last week and it is SO GOOD, you guys. I just needed everyone to watch this show because it gives me a lot of feelings and thoughts and I want to discuss it all forever. It's certainly not flawless, but the world it is building around the characters is just too good to skip. Can't wait to see where the season goes.

So yes, that is where I am right now.

halp me, livejournal

you're my only hope. or something.

We are doing a lab secret gift exchange. Of course, since this is my life, I managed to pull my advisor's name from the pool. There are only 6 people, so there is no way that people won't know who is responsible for each gift.

....What is a good $8-max gift for your thesis advisor? (My only backup plan right now is to buy some candy... and like... a wintery mug. I AM SO LAME GOD)

friends, i need some advice

So here's the deal. The parking office rejected my appeal to remove *only the late fee* on two $100 parking tickets (which would total $66 less dollars I have to pay). I am more than willing to pay the base ticket, but I don't think I should have to pay the late fee.

My reasoning:
I got a series of tickets in early October (my fault, I had parked my car in a spot I don't walk by and since I don't move my car during the week, I didn't catch them). That week, it rained several times so I had some tickets, but for all I knew, there was 1 missing or something. On the 26th, I logged into the online system and paid everything listed under my license plate number. Later that night, I logged in again to make sure everything was cleared and it looked like I was fine. Several weeks later, a letter shows up at my parents' house charging me late fees on tickets given the 7th and 8th of October.

I logged into the system again and discovered that these two tickets were indeed under my plate number, but they had not been before. I called the parking office to see what was up (and to ask to get rid of the late fee) and was told that they could see my payment on the 26th, but that the other two were added on the 28th. I should note that you have 21 days to pay a ticket; the 28th is 21 days after the 7th.

The lady over the phone told me to fill out an appeal online. I did. I got a letter today saying that it was rejected.

Is it worth it for me to set up a hearing? I legit will hand someone $200 cash to pay the full ticket, but I don't think the late fee is fair. What does a hearing even entail?

Halp? :|

question for my local flist

I am shopping around for a new hair place. I had been going to a salon up in Marblehead (which I will go back to if I really can't find another option), but it would be great to have a place closer to me. Ideally it would be not super expensive and also be willing to play with unusual colors if I decide I want to finally get creative with my hair.

Anyone have any recs for me? Places that friends have gone to and liked?

give me shoe advice!

I got my new shoes and tried them on. I AM SO IN LOVE. The sandals are so comfy. The heel is also sturdy and low. I am also ridic in love with the pumps, but I am unsure if I chould go down a size. They have an ankle strap, so it won't bother me as they are now... but I also don't want them to LOOK big. They are european sizing, so going down one would be not quite a full US size.

halp me livejournal.
