books and fabulous ice skaters

Last night I finished A Monstrous Regiment of Women. I was only 60 pages in. I got in bed and suddenly I was turning the last page and it was 5am. Now that I'm reading again, I think my brain is remembering how much FUN it is. I like it!

Also, the Mary Russell books by Laurie R King are SOOOOOOOO GOOD. It snuck up on me too. They had been recommended to me on twitter by someone who noted my obsession with all things Sherlock, but it took me a little while to get sucked into the first one. Now I have eaten my way through the first two of the series and I only have the 3rd in my possession... and I think it's time to throw more money at amazon this week. Basically, I ship Mary and Holmes so hard, it's a little ridiculous.

BUT ON TO MORE FABULOUS THINGS.
I TOTALLY MET JOHNNY WEIR TODAY AND I GOT TO TELL HIM TO HIS FACE THAT I ADORE HIS SKATING AND HIM AND THAT I LOVE HIS TV SHOW. THE TV SHOW THAT, IRONICALLY ENOUGH, THEY WERE FILMING FOR DURING THE BOOK SIGNING (if there is a god, i will not end up on tv).

So the book signing was at the bookstore like 15 min from my parents's house. Once I found out about it, I started making ~plans. Luck was on my side that it fell on a Saturday.

I should start with the process of telling my parents.
First: my mom.
After I told her that I was gonna go get a book signed by Johnny Weir, the first thing she said was "isn't he gay?" After I confirmed that, yes he is in fact gay, she then gave me this total *LOOK* and says "what is with you and all these gay guys". I was like, um...... I dunno it kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Like the only reason I care about them is because they are gay or something. ANYWAY.

This morning I told my dad where I was going and why. He then came out with: "An ice skater wrote a book?! He probably had someone write it for him, everyone knows ice skaters are illiterate" I was like, um ok then.

So yes. My family.

Then I gathered up my sister and we drove to the SIGNING! We got there like half an hour before the official start time and got a line ticket. We were in the 2nd group, but there weren't too many people, so whatever. I bought my book and we stood in line. ....for a while. I never looked to see what time it was when they finally announced that he was there. They made sure to also tell us that they were going to have the film crew in the store, filming for his tv show (which I then had to explain to my sister). So the line moved on... and he was like right there... and I really wanted to cling to my sister and whimper a little... because we was RIGHT THERE.

We weren't allowed to get the book personalized or anything, we had to hand our book to one of the guys standing next to him and as he signed, we could chat for a few seconds. I snagged a couple pics as I was a few people back in line. I also sent my sister (who did not want to buy a book) into this area right across from the signing table to hold the camera. I noticed people WERE pausing to turn and get a pic... so I was like, snap a pic... quickly. So.. I kinda got a pic?

So yes, I told him that I loved his skating and thought he was awesome and that I felt really lucky to be able to tell him that in person. And he gave me the biggest smile and I totally wanted to melt on the spot. And then I said that I thought his tv show was awesome... and he glanced over at the camera THAT WAS TWO FEET FROM MY FACE and was like, well... and I kinda smiled at him (and in my head was like, plz fml dont let that be aired).

Then I walked away and flailed at my sister.

There was still a bit of a line, so I decided to go hunt down his tour bus... which was actually easy because it was just down the block! So I went and got a super cheesy pic of myself next to the bus. The producer of the show was also outside filming by the bus....

Then I made my sister lurk with me near the rest of the signing. Tara (his agent) was there and she apparently has a pile of relatives in CT because she was introducing them all to Johnny and getting pics.

And yes, so pictures because now I am rambling...

(lol I am such a troublemaker. that guy on the left was like "you have to gooo")

lol bus

(skinny bitch)

So.... yes. I guess I have to actually read his book now.

edit: BECAUSE I JUST NEED TO FLAIL ABOUT THIS MORE. He is so tiny!!! and also suuuuuuper sweet to everyone. And when he was talking to the little girls it was the most adorable thing ever. <333
