2011: a year in review

One last post for 2011, before I have to change to go to a party full of adult people I don't know (ugh).

I think I've done this the past 2-3 years, so I might as well keep it going.

1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
- moved into the city
- ... I can't think of anything else new and exciting? I went to Ohio for the first time? (lo, self)

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and did you make more for 2012?
I didn't make resolutions and I probably won't make any for 2012 beyond setting a reading goal.

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
A graduate degree.

7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
September 1st! Hanging out in central park with awesome people, followed by 2nd row at a Panic! show. :)

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Finding a lab that I finally feel happy with to the point where I might actually finish my degree.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I prefer not to dwell.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not really.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My nail polish cabinet!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Lots of people :)

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Oh plenty, but let's not go there

14. Where did most of your money go?
Besides rent and bills... for lots of shiny toys.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
fandom in general

16. What songs will always remind you of 2011?
Anything by Adele that was on the radio... it wouldn't go away. /o\ Also, Hurricane (Panic!)

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
overall, happier
ii. thinner or fatter?
definitely fatter. argh
iii. richer or poorer?
poorer, always poorer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Seizing the moment and saying what's really in my mind.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Wasting time on silly things.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
With my family, eating a good dinner and opening presents.

21. Did you fall in love in 2011?
I am still undecided on this issue.

22. How many one-night stands?
lol none

X-Men First Class

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 26 this year. The weekend before I had a dinner with my family that ended in delicious cake and no presents to open. My birthday was a Tuesday. I went late to the lab and bought myself some cheesecake on the way home.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If the drama of lab switching hadn't been as... dramatic as it was.

EVERYONE! But especially @Manderkat who has done a lot to help keep me sane, especially lately.

38. Did you enjoy this year?
Yes!

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011?
Sometimes you just need to go for it, even if it's totally crazy and everyone around you is judging you for your decision. If it makes you happy and isn't hurting anyone else, then you should go for it.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Before you break you have to shed your armor. Take a trip and fall into the glitter.

The tl;dr version of everything under the cut is: I changed labs, it sucked. I moved, it's great. All my friends are online and the best parts of my year involved hanging out with them.

I hope everyone has a lovely New Year's Eve and I will see you all in 2012. ♥
