fangirl withdrawl

Oh gosh, hi Livejournal. So many THINGS have happened since I last visited you. Where shall I even begin?

Um. Last weekend I went to my friend's bachelorette party at Foxwoods. Went to a comedy show. Had my first Irish Car Bomb (Was not fond of it, honestly). Went dancing for a bit, which was fun too. The dress code was "sexy black" so I wore basically the same thing I wore to Gridlock a year and a half ago. :') Of course then I had to drive home at 3am and it was storming and there were no lights on the highway and I thought I was going to die.

ANYWAY

My roommate is in Europe now until the end of the month. As soon as I know I was going to be roommate-less for a few weeks, I put out a call on twitter for visitors. So... from Wednesday night to Saturday morning, I had [livejournal.com profile] x_serenade and [livejournal.com profile] maybe77 with me. (I lured them into it with the promise of vodka, oreos and JGL movies)

Shirphie arrived on Wednesday and we went over to South Street Diner for dinner. It was delicious and since we were the only people in there, the dude serving us was really chatty. This was also the night of the final hockey game and he had fun mocking us for not caring. Then we waited for Jill so we could go buy snack things at the store. (There was a hummus incident. We are not good at decisions.) Wednesday ended with us piling on my couch and futon and watching Inception followed by Tangled. Shirphie had not seen Inception and Jill had never seen Tangled. It was fun. Also, we broke Shirphie's mind a little bit with Inception. Oops.

As a side note. I AM SO HAPPY THAT I GOT TO SEE INCEPTION WITH JILL. WE SPENT THE WHOLE MOVIE EXCHANGING MEANINGFUL LOOKS.

Thursday was spent wandering alll over the city! I love Boston and I don't get into it nearly enough for my liking. Shirphie had NEVER been to Boston, so I was determined to show her as much as I could in two days. We started in Chinatown where we picked a random dim sum place for lunch. It was freaking delicious omg. I am now determined to try more random places in there when people are visiting me. From there, it was off to the Boston Commons. It was really hot, so most of that time was spent sitting in various places around the public gardens, watching the ducks. <3 There were also a pair of nesting swans.

From there, we set off to visit the Institute of Contemporary Art. It's free after 5pm on Thursdays!!! There was some cool stuff... but mostly I am not 99% sure that I will never understand modern art. I don't know how often the rotate things, but I'd love to go again once there is something new to puzzle over. After the ICA, we made our way to Quincy Market (one of my favorite places in the city). We stopped in at the Newbury Comics there and managed to find a lone JGL Hesher cut-out. A random employee was nice enough to take a pic of us with it. <3 We all got some food at the market and then dragged out tired selves back to my apartment.

We started the night's festivities by watching JGL's episode of SNL (which Shirphie had also not seen) and nearly killed ourselves laughing over it. It was followed by Brick, which I had not really understood on the first viewing and therefore had mixed feelings about. The second viewing went much better and I can now say that I liked it.

Friday started with bacon and eggs. So that was good. There was a threat of rain, but we really wanted to get cupcakes somewhere. Also, I had mentioned the Harpoon Brewery on Thursday and we wanted to go to the 2pm free tasting. GUYS I LOVE HARPOON BREWERY. Their weekday tastings are free and there is probably a solid 40 minutes where you just get to keep asking for anything on the taps. Protip: they still let you taste even if you're late. If you show up half an hour late, you don't need to listen to most of the talking and you can still drink.

Six tasting glasses of beer later... we wandered over to Newbury Street to get cupcakes. We ended up back in Newbury Comics where Jill and I proceeded to buy every JGL movie we could find, plus RockNRolla. Good timesss. We went to The Fairy Shop where Shirphie and Jill drowned in all the Alice in Wonderland stuff. Got cupcakes at Sweet (Sweets? idk) and ate them sitting out by the sidewalk.

Friday night's movies were (500) Days of Summer (aaaahhhh sob) followed by 10 Things I Hate About You (ALL THE LOVE). Fun fact: in the scrolling end credits of 10 Things, the hyphen was put in the wrong place.

Then we sat around in silence, talking on twitter and trying to delay going to bed. :(

Saturday morning was spent walking on the beach near my apartment, watching seagulls and poking at the algae washed up on the shore. <3 Then it was back into the city to drop Shirphie off at the bus and lunch at the diner with Jill.

It was really an awesome few days and my apartment felt really empty when they were gone.

FANGIRLS COME BACK TO ME.

So yes.... that is my life.

It sounds like you had a wonderful couple of days touristing in Boston! Which is something I love to do and highly recommend, even when you don't have visitors to squire around.

(And it's Sweet. :-))

:D I never get into the city properly, so I love having people stay with me. It gives me an excuse to explore more! Once I move closer to the city, I intend on taking more advantage of everything. :)

Whatever the name, they were delicious! <3
