"it's for your own good"

I am seriously tired of hearing people nag at me about everything I decide to do and then saying that it's "for your own good". No... no it's not for my own goddamn good. It's because every decision I make about my stupid life is apparently, a)not good enough or b)not right. And y'know what, they're my decisions. I know that as my parents, they want to see me do well and be happy. But that doesn't mean that I am incapable of making the decisions that will get me there.

Contrary to what everyone seems to think, I am indeed very worried about my grad school situation and actively looking at my options, making lists of schools and contacts and generally getting my shit together. This does not mean that every second I am sitting at my laptop, that I will be looking at school sites.

UGH. I dunno I'm just very irritated and wish people (read: my family) would trust me enough to get everything into proper order. My mom asked me tonight where the smart girl who went off to college 5 years ago had gone.

Guess what mom. She's still here and getting increasingly irritated by these shenanigans.

Fucking I don't even know what the hell your parents want for you. I don't think that 'smart girl' is around here anymore. I'd say you're a deal wiser for the wear.

Damn Right. You tell them.

And yes you're not supposed to spend 16 hours a day on anything that serious ya need to take time to decompress or your head will explode. No one can keep focus that long.

Only critique, invoking shenanigans is tough because shenanigans are generally tomfoolery as opposed to parental arm twisting. I would't call what they're doing shenanigans. Shenanigans is replacing the town's water supply with crystal Pepsi. This stuff is serious. bleh.

As for grad schools I recommend Abe's Graduate College and Hot Dog Stand (right off exit 60!) It offers 40 graduate level degrees and 14 times to condiments.

Good luck!

You can use it against her and when she asks you to do something (other than what she's been nagging you about) you say you can't because you're doing the thing she's nagging you about, even if you aren't. Score.

are you financially obligated to them? I told my parents to basically fuck off about my career after I got one. And it works. Except now they are all "omg you work too hard" and stuff. Can never win, I guess.

I hear you Lina! Everytime I go down the Clinton to visit my grandparents, it's all about "how's your resume?" or "is your portfolio done?" or even better "have you gotten a real job yet?" WTF is a 'real job'? because I'm getting paid at Shaws, and I'm doing work, isn't that a 'real job'? Hang in there!

It was good seeing you last night, and I'll see you tomorrow night! yays!
