adventures in dentistry

aka... gah i can't feel the left side of my face...

So I had a dentist appointment today. It was.. adventureful... First off, they got a new girl to do my x-rays and it wasn't fun. She wasn't very communicative to begin with. And she sucked at doing the x-ray part. I have a really small mouth, so it's near impossible to get the little plastic thing in without maiming my gums.. but it's possible. I'd thought they used the size they usually use on kids.. but I guess not. Also, for some reason she was having me hold the metal thing steady while she shot x-rays at my mouth... but usually they tell me to just hold it still with my mouth. So I'm all like, wtf? and she's all giving cryptic directions like "tilt down" which means absolutely nothing to me. And then I'm letting go of the metal thing cuz I keep forgetting to hold it. Someone we managed to get through the right side. But then I guess she got annoyed when i couldn't get the plastic thing to the back of my mouth and bite down without some crazy pain. So she whips out this little gel pack and a cotton swab and proceeds to smear it all over my left gums while explaining that it's a topical anesthesia... Then, I guess it wasn't good enough for her so she told me to do it myself where it hurt. Let's just say that by the end of it, I couldn't feel half of my face... or the left side of my tongue... it was most unpleasant.
Best part? It decided to wear off while the usual lady was using the spinny brush right along my gumline and it hurt.. a lot.

So as consolation I went shopping. And spent absurd amounts of money. But I like shirts... so there.

So about that data that's due tomorrow... *shifty eyes* ... *sigh*

Ive never heard of someone doping a person up for an X-ray. She sounds like a real professor.

usually they only use the topical gel to numb up your gums in preparation for the injection of novacaine... are you sure this lady passed through Dental School? o.O

omg omg story of MY life! i hate the dentist.... gah... well, last time i tried to not see the dentist (bad idea btw) i ended up having to see him for like 5 appointments in a month... and yeah...those plastic things hurt a lot when they make you close down.... i ahev sensitive gums, so yeah.... pain! (shopping usually does make everybody feel better! woot!)

I remember I got a shot of novacaine in my forearm. It was amazing. I kept poking at it to see if I felt anything.

Getting those x-rays is a bitch. It usually hurts the hard areas under the tongue.
