Umm... yeah....

Still alive after a day at work. w00t!! But God am I ever tired! My feet hurt from standing for most of the day and I have very sore shoulders after all the upsidedown-ness at 6 Flags yesterday. Now that I've gone through the day though, I've realized how much I missed science. I did some PCR prep in the morning and then was given some reading. It took me a full hour and a half to read a 6 page article from some Immunology publication. This is an article full of abbreviations like IL-2, APC, Ag, SAg, mls protiens, etc.... I can't say I understood all of it, but I got the point. But it was very rewarding to finally finish. It was like, I *can* do this science thing!!

The creepiest thing happened at lunch though... I'm sitting alone at a table in the hosital cafeteria, innocently eating my salad and fries when this random man starts talking to me. He asked if I was a med or grad student here (o_O). I was trying to finish my lunch, but to no avail... So we talk a bit, and he's like, "so can I call you sometime?" And then first thing that crossed my mind was 'oh shit... how do I get out of this?' I said something about my parents not liking people calling me. So then he asked my age and I told him 18. He said he thought I was older. Then he thankfully left me alone to finish lunch quickly so I could get back to the lab. It was way creepy and honestly, totally unexpected. Something similar happened to me once in a book store and thanks God it was less creepy this time. At least this guy stayed away from me. *shudders* I hate that... But I wonder now... how old do I look to people who don't know me?? *sigh*

I got to go to the mouse room too!!! Except I'm bad at picking them up right so one of them almost bit me. Luckily, my gloves are always loose so she just got the glove. *sigh* Tomorrow I get to run some gels which is fun. And then I do some more PCR and something called ELISA which is very complicated. -.-;;; And then Wed. I get to do the ELISA by myself!!! eeep... On top of that I have another paper to read... yeesh... At least I'm not bored. Me loves science muchly and all is well! Off to go read about T cell immunity and the role of costimulation vs. adjuvent induction.... *wanders away*

(edit) I forgot to talk about the people here!! They're all really nice. I'm primarily working with Rob, screening mice and stuff, getting the hang of things, etc. One of the other guys who works here (his name is Joe... ironic) reminds me very much of Clay Aiken. He has like the hair color and something about the way he carried himself... anyway, everytime I see him, my inner fangirl starts jumping up and down and squeeing like the little girl she is and I have to stomp on it to make it stop. This is most inconvenient when trying to pipet 1 microliter samples into tiny PCR tubes that are hard to hold with gloves on. Ah, me... only me....
