maybe if i growl at it, it will fix itself

Hi, so this is a post about delicious and the changes. I'm sure everyone is sick and tired of hearing about it, so I am going to put this behind a cut. Feel free to scroll.

So yes. Basically, I spent a lot of yesterday trying not to cry pathetically at the state of delicious and my tags. Although, I must say, that I am glad my account still existed.. since... this seems to be a problem that a lot of people have now. I finally managed to get the password reset to work so I had access to my files.

Back in December when the first stirrings of Delicious possibly going away forever, I opened a Diigo and a Pinboard account. I re-logged into them and when I finally managed to get everything exported from Delicious, I imported it there. The problem is that Delicious's new export system saves all the links with the date/timestamp of the export, NOT the day it was saved as a bookmark originally. So... that was pretty shitty. It's not super essential for me to have that info proper, but it's good when I am looking for a fic to link to someone else because generally I can remember when I read something. Also, I just like to know how much fic I have read per day and what order I read things in.

So after that trauma, I was like..... okay I will deal with it? But then, I found info on pulling the xml file directly from the API. So I did that, wiped my pinboard links and re-imported. .... Which, yay! it saved my dates properly. Except then I realized that by default, only the most recent 1000 links were saved. So after a bit of moping about that, I realized that I just needed to add the number of links to the end of my api address.

I did a new import and yay, all my links were there! The only issue I currently have is that APPARENTLY all my recently edited delicious bookmarks (I have been adding ** to my favorite links in an attempt to create good reclists for people) are still showing the incorrect date. I'm not sure why it's doing this, but at this point I can't be bothered to try and figure it out.

Oh wait I lied, there is one more issue. I use a lot of line breaks in my delicious tags so I can add comments after a fic summary. Apparently, when importing the xml file, if there is a line break in the description, it just doesn't import a description at all. I have been sitting in office hours since 9:30am, manually copy-pasting all of my descriptions back in. Ironically enough, when editing a description you CAN use line breaks... it just doesn't work for importing I guess.

Sigh. It has been a long 24 hours. My current plan is to keep tagging via delicious add-on, but having it synced with pinboard to also tag there. That way, I have everything in both places. I would much rather tag via pinboard since there are auto-complete tags, but then it won't cross-post to delicious and just argh.

...ok no one cares about my personal trauma. Sorry
