It's pretty angsty. But it's hard for me to tell if it's *really* angsty, or if that's just me angsting at it because I know part of the plot and what is coming soon.

I haven't read the manga so I can't really compare. =X As far as I can tell, it's staying very plot-true to it... and despite my flailing, it's definitely amusing too.

I'd say you should give it a try for 1-2 episodes? It is pretty spectacular so far.
