grow me a garden of roses

I am mildly obsesed with the song Roses by Poets of the Fall. I don't know why. It caught my attention during the drive back from Boston for some reason. Something about the melody progression just.. is pleasing to my mind. It's calming too. :)

So.. the Northeatern visit.

Thursday after dinner I drove up to the hotel. Damn I don't like driving in Boston when I'm unsure of my destination. The directions were kinda vague and I ended up driving down a ramp when I should have stayed on the upper street... and I did a nice circle around the university before finally making a possibly illegal U-turn to get the right way. I stayed at the Midtown Hotel which was literally a block and a half away from the Cheesecake Factory side of the convention center. A fact that I totally took advantage of the first night.

Then Friday it was up at 7:30 to get ready for the day! I was so nervous... and then I nearly missed getting to the right place. We were going to be leaving with students at 8:30. I got down there at exactly 8:30 and there was no one there!! Luckily some other people came down to the lobby and we all walked over together because the main group had already left. The rest of the day was a whirlwind of talking to people and meeting professors. It was a little intimidating to be honest. Of the 27 there, 12 wanted to go marine. And they said they had like.. 6 spots. Maybe 7. And a bunch of people already had masters degrees and I'm not sure if they prefer that because some schools do. *sigh* I am always awful about interviews, but I think I managed well. I read some papers before I went... but my mind always loses details in the stress. We ended the day by going to a yummy noodle place. While waiting, one of the faculty bought a round of plum sake for the group. xD It tasted kinda sweet. And then I ate Pad Thai and omg *drool*.

Then Saturday we got fed again (I spent the whole time eating it seems!) and then it was off to the marine station up in Nahant. It. was. BEAUTIFUL. It's on an island.. and nearly surrounded with water. And they have great facilities.

I am very pleased with the program so far so I am crossing all my fingers sooo hard right now. The atmosphere was just what I'm looking for pretty much.

This is also my last week of work so I'm hurrying to try and round things out and organize everything to leave behind. It's kinda sad.. but I think I'll be happy for a bit of a break to refocus. Now I need to decide where we're going out for lunch on Thursday...
