Comings and Goings

So I'm back from my trip. Last Wednesday feels like it was forever ago at this point.

I left the anime club meeting last week feeling rather morose and drove to West Hartford. I crashed in bed at 2, woke up at 5. The airport part was rather uneventful. Arrived at Bradley with $20 from my dad for food, bought a hot chocolate and boarded. Landed in Charlotte, NC a couple hours later, bought a muffin to snack on and then slept for the 45 min ride to Wilmington. I was met by Dr. Taylor when I walked out and thus my visit began.

We went to a local cafe thing and I got some coffee (so good... 3 hours of sleep is bad for talking science). She talked to be a lot about her research and I tried to absorb as much as I could while asking questions. Ate a late lunch at another cafe thing and then did some touring. Went down to the Marine Center and drove by the waterway. Lemme just say.. it was beautiful down there. It was also waaay flat. There are no tall buildings and all the streets seem to be long and straight, so the horizon just sits there taunting you.

Anyway, after a bunch of touring I got dropped off at my hotel room for the night. I changed out of my dressy clothes and braved 4 lanes of traffic to go buy myself some Wendy's for munching. The hotel was pleasant enough and they had a common use computer in the lobby so I even got online some.

Friday I was picked up and left to wander around the campus for hours. There was less wandering and more dozing in the library though. It was too warm and buggy for me to brave the wildflower preserve they mysteriously have in the center of campus. I had hoped to get on a computer in the library, but they were all locked to non-students!! So I grabbed a Murakami book from the shelves and dozed on a couch with it. xD

Then I repeated my flights in reverse! yay! I had a 3 hour layover in Charlotte though, so I bought me some dinner and read manga. The airport there is nice. In the center hub, they had a row of white rocking chairs for people to sit.

Work is depressing me.

I started re-reading Speaker for the Dead for like the millionth time. I feel like I re-read it about once a year. And between those readings, I like to randomly pick a page and read a little of that spot. It gets me every single time.

Mhm... so now I'm waiting on an email from Dr. Taylor to confirm whether she is going to formally offer me this spot, or if she changed her mind. =\
