MOVIE: Hesher

the tl;dr, spoiler-free version: oh my god this movie was amazing. It is sooo much more than the trailers make it out to be and I was definitely crying by the end. GO SEE IT.

MOVIE: Parked

I swear that I didn't mean for my LJ to turn into a "Carolina reviews things" blog, but I've been out and about lately and I like to have thinky thoughts. (This is part of my unofficial "Find Some Damn Culture" project).

Last Thursday I went to the opening presentation of the Boston Irish Film Festival because they were screening Parked! I guess it won best film, or something. idk. Since it was a Thursday, I had to haul myself after class to get there before 7pm and nearly walked right by the building. Oops. I am not familiar with that area of the city. As soon as I got there, I felt woefully under-dressed for the occasion. Mostly because I'd been on campus all day and had dressed for comfort and there were all these people looking nice with the various film directors milling around in suits. Also there was beer, which I was really tempted by.....

So yes, film! Before I start with a more complete summary under a cut (I know there are people on my feed who might not want to be spoiled? Maybe?), I will say.. If you have a chance to see this film, I definitely urge you to take the chance. The cast is fantastic. Obviously, I mostly went because of Colin, but everything was wonderful.

RE: Colin. There are movies that change your entire perception of that person as an actor. With JGL, that movie was Mysterious Skin. Parked has done the same thing. Outside of some short film-y stuff, I have only ever seen Colin as Merlin. And now I have that layered over Cathal and just.... eep. So good.

MOVIE: Elektra Luxx

I am going to preface this by saying sorry. Basically, JGL is a perfect human being and I am apparently on a mission to watch EVERYTHING HE HAS BEEN IN EVER. This quest is why I spent my Friday night sobbing hysterically all over my laptop after watching Mysterious Skin. THAT MOVIE MAKES EVERYTHING SO VERY NOT OKAY AAAHHH. That said, it was a powerful movie with some excellent acting. I am glad I watched it, but I think I would like to spend the rest of my life making sure I never see it again.

That brings us to yesterday.

there used to be a real post here...

...but then I lost it. I will update tomorrow. From the lab. Where I will hopefully not get trapped or something equally awful in the impending Snowpocalypse redux.

Until then, have my favorite part of the movie Before Sunrise

“Daydream delusion, limousine eyelash
Oh baby with your pretty face
Drop a tear in my wineglass
Look at those big eyes
See what you mean to me
Sweet-cakes and milkshakes
I’m a delusion angel
I’m a fantasy parade
I want you to know what I think
Don’t want you to guess anymore
You have no idea where I came from
We have no idea where we’re going
Lodged in life
Like branches in a river
Flowing downstream
Caught in the current
I carry you
You’ll carry me
That’s how it could be
Don’t you know me?
Don’t you know me by now?”

jesus christ it's a lion, GET IN THE CAR

Hahahaha... I was totally going to make a real post last night, but then I spent an hour uploading pictures to photobucket and making a caps-filled picspam. ilu fandom, really. <3 You make my life so much more entertaining.

Ah where do I even start, this is going to turn into a mushed up topic post I think.

Exhibit 1:

Exhibit 2:
Awesome-ly terrifying prose! Two pages of metaphorical character description that is supposed to be appealling but really just.. missed the mark. If you scroll into the comments, there are links to actual attempts at physical depiction and the results are terrifying. It basically made me lol for a good 10 minutes when I got the link.

So... what have I been up to?

Last night Phil was like, let's hang out. So Susana, him and I all went for pizza followed by STAR TREK. I'd been waiting till I could go with my dad since he's a closet fan (he totally gets the DVDs and then watches them alone at night in the basement). But with work he was like, I dunno when we can go. Ahh it was good! I mean, I only have a marginal sense of the fandom and the main characters... but even with just that I was proud that I recognized the major players. Plus y'know.. space is pretty. So now I need to make sure I still take my dad because I think he will really enjoy it.

Today was just work.. and OH BOY. Apparently we have a new system for the front desk and it makes... zero sense. Instead of having someone to greet and take names, we are supposed to stand *in front* of the desk and just ~know~ where the available tables are. Naturally this is only when we are not on a wait.. but it is just so disorganized. And I feel bad cuz we can't balance the tables out for the servers if we don't have access to the computer screen. I'm pretty sure we're all hoping that if it ends up failing a lot, then they will say that we should go back to the other way. Silly work always having to try and change things.

I would say more, but my stomach just went "Hi there crazy person who hasn't eaten anything all day. FEED ME". I should ptobably listen to it.

Last night I stayed up FAR too late reading this epic length FMA fanfic. It was very action-packed with lots of sneaking around and general badass antics. We're talking... 4am and the birds were waking up sort of late. xD Je suis LOSER.

Then of course it was so warm and I slept at a funny angle so my neck was angry with me when I woke up.. at 1pm.

Today I went prom dress shopping with my little sister. We'd tried before and it had only resulted in failure. Today we went out to Buckland Hills and it turns out that Sears is good for more that washing machines and vacuum cleaners! I am relieved because now I don't need to try and convince her that modifying my old prom dress is a good idea.

[ profile] kick_flaw posted this
and I am wondering how I did not know about it. I went through a big... supernatural? out-there? crazy things? phase in high school where I just ate up anything similar to that sort of monument. I would love to go see it in person someday. The inscriptions sound really creepy and I want to see how that sunbeam showing what day of the year it is thing work. Pity I'm not going south for school or it would be easier.

And now to end this, a meme. One that I LOVE the idea of. An animation mene!

omg i love animated movies. i am a child )

chase the morning

Spent most of my evening helping brother with a paper. Not quite what I'd had in mind. *woe*

A few things I forgot on my last post.

Alexa Vega, aka Shilo. I spent most of the movie going "omg wtf else have I seen this chick in". So I looked her up after the movie and realized I know her from SPY KIDS. Or possibly one of the sequels? I don't even remember why I've seen Spy Kids! Possibly during some babysitting something or other. I feel like I saw at least one of them in theatres which is just so lame. lol.

Also... use of comic book scenes to fill in backstory and enhance the flow of the story... awesome. Took me a bit to get used to as the first few minutes are all in comic format and I was just fidgeting wondering when it was going to start for real. But once I was farther into the movie, it just made sense to do it that way.

Ok.. no more rambling from me tonight.

zydrate comes in a little glass vial

Sometimes my family is a mess. And sometimes we discuss Disney sequels over dinner. Tonight's conversation was highlighted by my father asking why Ariel's daughter (in Little Mermaid 2) didn't go back to the ocean and find herself a sugar-daddy. I'm sure it made sense to him.. but I don't even know. lulz.

I watched Repo! The Genetic Opera last night. I'd intended to watch about half an hour of it and then go to bed. Somewhere along the way I got sucked in and suddenly an hour had passed of the 1.5 hour movie. So I just finished it. It made me cry pretty bad.

cheesecakes are heavy

I almost dropped a cheesecake today at work. It was awesome. I was asked to help carry a bunch from the back so we could re-stock the bakery. I started out carrying two at once, one for each hand. That was cool for about the first 5 trips. Then my arms started hurting... and on the 6th-ish trip, my left hand was not quite under the center of the platter.. and I could feel it tipping but my arm was really tired so I couldn't quite sort out the balance... lulz. I managed to barely get the right one onto a table before the left one slid. I still got a little whipped cream on my pants. *flail* Good thing I didn't drop it.. those things cost like $45.

Started downloading Repo tonight. Figured that I've heard enough about it by now, mostly mixed reviews. I am curious so.. why not. Finished Corda d'Oro the other day. Typical fluff but it makes me want to play my instruments again. The second season apparently just started like.. 2 days ago so I might keep up with it. Robin Hood airs tomorrow in England. Someone needs to get that on the torrents asap. I will fidget until then.

I am exhausted.. prolly bed soon. Went to bed at 2:30 last night.. read for a bit (not more than 20 min).. and then managed to toss and turn until 4am. *headdesk* I fail.

all the king's horses

Before anything I say can get in the way..

Merlin is being shown on NBC in June and OMGIAMSOEXCITEDYOUSHOULDALLWATCH! *cough* I don't know why I am so obssessed with this. Perhaps because I am missing that one Robin Hood DVD and it is stopping me from going back to that. *woe* That being said *points to icon* Colin Morgan has delicious cheekbones. That is all.

Finally got a chance to watch Milk tonight. I'd been meaning to since I first heard about months ago... but I was too lazy to torrent. So it was rented and we all watched. My mom was definitely making faces during all the guy face-sucking bits.. but whatevs. I think for a lot of people, they honestly don't let it bother them so long as it's not right in their face. *shrug* It's all cool.

Work is good. My feet feel like they're going to FALL OFF from running so many damn tables. But I think tomorrow I get to greet... which means standing in one spot and taking party numbers. Woo! After tomorrow I think I graduate to not being in training.. assuming I pass this test that they handed me the questions and answersheet for. xDD

Yay life!

Mmm... now to start Corda d'oro or go stare at cheekbones some more... decisions...

zomg why am I so hyper? There was much happiness earlier when I remembered that most of the website stuff was actually on one of my flashdrives. So I didn't have to recover too much for the site. I shall have to fully update that by the end of vacation!

Susana saved me from a night of boredom when she IMed me to say that I should go with her and others to see Narnia. I rather enjoyed it. The visuals were stunning as expected. Part of me is thinking that storywise... it needed some work. But zomg... awesome fighting. And I want a unicorn.... they're pretty.... @_@
Much amusement came from this one character who looks pretty much exactly like Jacob's World of Warcraft character, although with a one-handed axe and a sword rather than a two-handed axe.

And now I'm very hyper and happy. wheeeeeeee

i feel warm and fuzzy

Lesee.... Yesterday I went out on a boat with Ylva and Erin. We collected marsh grass!! And I got to drive the boat which is confusing because you turn the steering handle in the opposite way from which you want to go. *eye roll* Stupid system. Then I was deadtired and puttered around the lab for a bit.

We went to the same beach I went to with Lena, Pat and Phil to watch the sunset of the summer solstice. Amazing but it made me feel small and lonely and for some reason made me want to draw. I was sitting alone on a lifeguard chair hugging my knees cuz it was so cold and thinking about this weekend and Pat and life and stuff. Good times i suppose.

Today I wasn't supposed to go out in the field and I got to work mega-early (8:30) because my ride left early. I'm sitting and Erin walks in and asks if I would go to the field with her because Ylva is out buying a car. So off I went again, this time to walk around a pond after driving the boat and collect more marsh grass. Erin is really cool. She offered to buy me lunch as thanks, but I declined because I would have felt bad.

We watched Amelie tonight. omg. soooo cute. the ending first gave me the warm fuzzies, then it made me feel lonely and in need of a hug from a certain someone. And now I'm just kinda conflicted. But an amazing movie nonetheless.

*sigh* I'm so tired. i said I was going to go to bed early tonight, but it's midnight and I still need to shower. So I guess that's not happening. Tomorrow should be ok and chill though. I get to go play with power tools and sharp things in the morning. And then it's more cleaning and dumping things into hydrochloric acid. And fun times will be had by all.....

Lazy Monday

This weekend was freakin awesome! Lena, Phil and Pat arrived around 10 on Saturday and we went off to the Falmouth Strawberry Festival where we ate yummy strawberry shortcake. Then we chilled in Woods Hole for a while and such. Dinner was a chinese takeout picnic on the beach followed by a failed attempt to toast marshmallows over a lighter. Then we went to the hotel and played cards. It was fun.

Sunday was spent at IHOP and then Old Silver Beach getting sunburned. (well i didn't get burned, but everyone else did) Then we took a pizza to the beach and had a final moment. And then they were rather sadly off. I didn't have time to mope around though because I went with my housemates to go see Batman Begins.

*hearts* Now... I havent seen any of the Batman movies, but even I liked it. yeah.

Today was boring and lonely though. Everyone is gone in Spain and I'm just puttering around. Eh.
At least it was nice outside today and I went outside.

Anyway... off to play a game or something...

Hmm... yay for borrowing wireless! *shifty eyes* *cough*

Well.... home has become somewhat unbearable. My mom gets harder to deal with by the day as all I get is criticism and comments about my weight/excercising/computer use/cleaning/EVERYTHING. And all I can think is, 'two more weeks. only two more weeks, you can do this.'

Hung out with Cristina twice in the week. Mini-golf and then we rented Spanglish. It was pretty good. Adam Sandler not being funny and stupid. *ponders*

And... I SAW STAR WARS TODAY!! I enjoyed it. Some of the lines... *wince* But damn. The theatre was *dead silent* when they put that Darth Vader mask on Anakin.... and the first breath... *shivers*

But yes... I get to see Pat tomorrow for what hopefully won't be the last time till school. *sigh*
Perhaps I will go watch some anime...

(edit)kinda sorta updated my userinfo if people even care..
